Mary Goes to Elisabeth
Luke 1:39-47
Elisabeth was six months pregnant with John when Yahweh sent the angel Gabriel unto the city of Nazareth to Mary the mother of Yasha. Gabriel told Mary she would give birth to the Savior of the world, then he said, “Your cousin, Elisabeth is going to have a son; she is now in her sixth month." Elisabeth was old and had been unable to have a child. It was a miracle! With Yahweh nothing is impossible. Up until this time, Elisabeth had not told anyone she was going to have a baby because she felt people would make fun of her since she was older than most new mothers.
Mary got up early the next morning and went into the hill country as quickly as she could, into the city of Judah. Mary entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elisabeth. As quick as Elisabeth heard Mary’s voice her baby leaped in her womb with joy, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elisabeth spoke out with a loud voice to Mary, saying, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why has the mother of my Lord come to me? For as soon as I heard your greeting, my baby leaped in my womb for joy." At this time Elisabeth's baby (John) was filled with the Holy Spirit
It was after Elisabeth had her son, when her neighbors and her cousins heard how Yahweh had showed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
When John was eight days old they went to the temple to dedicate him and to give him his name. First they called him Zacharias after his father, but Elisabeth said, “Not so, he must be called John.”
Those who were there said unto her, “You have no relatives by that name.” And they turned to Zacharias and asked him, “What is the baby’s name?”
Zacharias asked for a writing tablet because he could not speak, and he wrote, “His name is John.” Zacharias’ mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke and praised Yahweh.
Fear came on all that lived around them. What had happened was told throughout all the hill country of Judea. All that heard wondered what manner of child John would be, for they knew Yahweh had a special call upon him.
Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied saying, “Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.
Mary returned home after John was born to await the birth of her own son.
