Shepherds In the Field

Luke 2:8-18

On the night of Yasha's (Jesus') birth, there were shepherds not far away that were in the field. They were taking turns watching their flock of sheep during the night. It was in the fall and before the cold weather set in that would cause them to have to bring the sheep down from the hills to be fed hay for the winter. It was the 7th moon after the spring equinox and the 14th day of the year 4 B.C.

Suddenly, an angel of Yahweh came and stood by the shepherds, and Yahweh’s glory shined all around them. The shepherds were amazed. The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, I have good news for you. A great joy will come to all the people: the Savior, who is anointed, was born for "you" today in David’s town. This is how you will know him, you will find a baby all wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly there was with the angel a large crowd of angels who were praising Yahweh and saying, “Glory to Yahweh in the highest heavens, and on earth peace among people who desire to do good!”

When the angels left, the shepherds said to one another, “Yahweh has told us what has happened. Let’s go to Bethlehem and see the Savior.”

The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and searched all the stables until they found Mary and Joseph. Since the angel said the baby was lying in a manger, they knew he had to be at a stable. Sure enough, when they found Mary and Joseph the baby was lying in the manger just as the angel had said.

After the shepherds visited with Mary and Joseph and saw Baby Yasha, they went and told others what the angels had said about this child.

Everybody was surprised to hear the story that the shepherds told. But some of the people knew the Savior was to be born and was anxiously waiting for the time of Yasha's birth. Yahweh told them that he would dwell in man; no doubt, Yasha was the first man the Father dwelt in. This day was the fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles.
