The Star Watchers

Matthew 2:1-9

Yasha (Jesus) was born in Bethlehem, in Judea when Herod was king.  Wise men, who were star watchers, came from the east to Jerusalem and asked Herod, “Where is the Child who was born King of the Jews?  We saw his star rise and have come to worship him.”  In the Old Testament (Numbers 24:17), Yahweh told the people, "A Star will come out of Jacob."  Yahweh spoke of his Son as a star because he was going to shine light in the darkness of the people's ignorance. Wise men in every generation had been watching for this new star for it was the sign that the new King had been born, and it had finally appeared.

When King Herod heard about this, he became alarmed and all Jerusalem with him. He called together all of the ruling priests and men trained in the Bible and tried to find out from them where the promised Savior was to be born.

They told King Herod, “In Bethlehem, in Judea,” because the prophet wrote the words of Yahweh, saying, “And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are not at all the least among the leading towns of Judah, since from you will come a leader who will be the Shepherd of My people Israel.”

King Herod secretly called the wise men and found out from them the exact time the star appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search carefully for the little Child, and when you find him report to me so that I too may go and bow down before Him.” But King Herod did not plan to bow down to the new King. He did not want to give up his throne. He planned to have Baby Yasha killed.

As the wise men started out to find baby Yasha, the new King, they saw the star again. They were extremely excited to see the star. They were compelled by the Holy Spirit to follow the star. They traveled until they were under the star. They knew they were in the right town since the star was directly overhead. They knocked on the door of the room in the inn, and sure enough, there was Baby Yasha, the new King, with his mother. They knelt down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gold, incense, and myrrh.

As the wise men slept that night, Yahweh warned them in a dream, saying, "Do not to go back to King Herod, he wants to kill the young child." So they went home to their country another way. When King Herod found out what they had done, he was very angry. But Yahweh would not let any harm come to his son.
