Golden Hours of Sunset

Summer has past, come my love,

share with me the days of fading green,

walk beside me across the hills of variegated golds,

highlighted by the vivid fall reds.

Let the sound of our laughter blend as we share the joys

of the blazing sunset.

Reap with me; it is time to gather the golden grain of our summer sowing,

and gather the fruits of life’s bountiful harvest.

Give me the warmth of your hand

as we enter together the gray of the evening.

In the fading light hold me firmly,

lest I should stumble in the shadows.

When the fields are empty and the grain is in the garners,

rest with me until the winter night is spent.

And once again the voice of the turtle-dove

disrupts the stillness of the valley.
