Sharing Life's Golden Grain
If you're prone to make fun of the old folks,
When they speak of their friends long ago;
I bid you hold on just a moment,
They have a good reason, you know.
Do you want your dear friends to forget you,
As soon as they hear you are dead?
And not speak about you to others,
Or mention a thing you have said?
Would you want them to forget all your labors,
And not point to the trail that you blazed?
Do you want them to blot out the memories
Of all of those wonderful days?
When we talk of our loved ones departed,
And remember their trials and their gain,
We're distributing the fruits of their labor;
We're sharing their life's golden grain.
Without the past we have no foundation for the future.
