Paul, in Your Prison Cell

Paul, bound in your prison cell,

How did you spend your days?

Were your lips fixed and ready

To give the Father praise?

Were there times of disappointment,

Or perhaps a time of fear?

Did you ever weep in secret,

Or turn you face to hide a tear?

Who was your gracious mother?

Did you miss her now and then?

Did you retain the memories

Of some special childhood friend?

When a dusty little fellow

Smiled into his daddy's eyes,

With that love and adoration,

That makes him feel so wise.

Did you feel a little heartache,

That you’d never share the joy,

Of a cuddly dimpled daughter,

Or a charming baby boy?

I often wonder if you knew

When you penned your famous scrolls,

That the words that you were writing,

Would help so very many souls.

And that after many centuries

The Church would honor you,

And that Christians throughout the ages,

Would read your letters through.

Paul, the prisoner of the Lord,

In your spirit were you free?

Did you overcome temptations,

And your own humanity?
