The Acid Test

Our trials are a fact of life,

As are temptations, sin and strife.

They each produce an evil seed,

In every race, in every creed.

Our trials give us a time to test,

Detect our flaws, and find our best.

They’re used to strengthen relationships,

And can expose our shoulder chips.

Temptations have their virtue too,

We’re forced to choose what we will do.

They test the fiber we’re made of;

Through them we grasp, the things we love.

Temptation is a stepping stone,

A ladder to man’s highest throne;

For if man was not forced to choose,

He’d never win, and never lose.

Temptation puts an end to strife,

When sin is spurned and we choose life.

Temptation makes us search our mind,

To see what wisdom we can find.

Life is filled with joy and pain,

A road that reaches a higher plane.

But we can turn at any time,

Depending on our frame of mind.

Watch your fingers as you grasp,

You could be near a den of asp;

A sharp thorn can appear you know,

In any place where roses grow.
