Frost

Frost is just around the corner,

And the garden flowers will die.

The geese are migrating south,

We heard them honking in the sky.

The trees will soon drop their foliage,

But right now they are orange-red,

Mixed with brown, green and yellow,

But after frost they’ll all be dead.

I think that winter belongs to children,

Most children love to play in snow.

I have so many cherished memories,

Of my childhood long ago.

We would track plumb swamp rabbits,

That were stranded and could not escape.

Sometimes we trapped them in small gums,

I would hate to tell you of their fate.

Oh that snow looked bright and shinny

When the sun would start to shine,

And we children loved the winter,

Just as much as summer time.
