Our Backyard Friends

Our backyard has two frisky Squirrels

Who love to run and play;

They scamper up the big oak tree

To reach their hideaway.

I love their long and bushy tails;

They arch them in the air,

And stand right up on their back legs,

As if to offer prayer.

I see them jump from limb to limb;

They never seem to fear.

At times they're playing all about,

And then they disappear.

They gather nuts for winter food

When fall is in the air,

And run across my patio,

As if I wasn't there.

These little things enrich our lives,

And need our tender care.

I pray God's blessing on them,

And all squirrels everywhere.
