America, Our Grand Legacy

I sat beside a mountain stream

And watched the waters cool and clean.

Deep within my spirit sing

In harmony with the bubbling stream.

Another time that I recall,

I stood beside a waterfall.

A cooling mist was in the air,

A soft damp breeze blew through my hair.

The beauty of the stately trees,

Their limbs were dancing with the breeze.

I felt that God was in that place,

And decked it with His love and grace.

I climbed on to the mountain top,

Then perched myself upon a rock.

I looked down at the scene below

And watched the water's rushing flow.

I then remembered other scenes:

Plush farm lands, the lakes and streams,

The desert’s beauty, unique and rare,

And bowed my head and said a prayer.

I thanked Him for the majestic view,

The soft white clouds, and sky so blue,

And thanked Him that I chanced to be

On the rock where I could see.

The wonder that is in my heart,

Is that I’m here to be a part

Of this enchantment far and wide,

I’m overwhelmed with love and pride.

I love this country of my birth,

For there is no place upon this earth

With greater beauty in variety,

Than this great land, from sea to sea.
